Now is the time to Add a home office or study area to your home

Whether you are newly working from home or have worked at home before, it seems that now more than ever, we feel the need for a designated space for our home office. And, when sharing that space with our kids, there is a need for some separation from family life, a place for a laptop and a nice setting for online meetings. The home office and/or study area has become premium real estate in the family home. This recent development may be more permanent than we think. Business owners may become more lenient about working from home after the pandemic is over. So when your little one or even you get sick, you may just switch to ‘remote’ and never miss a beat at the office. Online classes will be more popular now than ever as schools and universities see the benefit and savings with online education. Homework may take on more of a remote online process that requires computer access. So no more doing homework on the bed, the kids will need to be closer to the internet connections of the home.

So enters the essential need for a home office or study area. Carving the office space out of your existing home is possible, accessing a closet, small alcove or other little used space. Sometimes it’s hard to find ‘little used’ space. Better yet, a room addition to your home adds value with the added square footage. Just make sure there is a closet and a window with ‘egress’ and you have a space that can be called a ‘bedroom /office’, also adding extra value with that added bedroom count. An addition can also be considered a ‘flex space’ for resale, giving a new buyer options for its use.

So think about how that designated home office or study will ease the pressures of working or schooling from home! It may become more normal than you expected.
